8. The Pelerine

A night passes.  Severian and the infirm of the lazaret listen to the nearby sounds of war.

A Pelerine visits with Severian.  They discuss Miles and his memory and Hallvard and his story.  Severian remarks that he is a torturer, and the Pelerine is surprised that the Order of the Seekers for Truth and Penitence exists.
