My Name Is Nancy Wood

Pursuant to a court order, the body of Nancy Wood is exhumed and tested for traces of arsenic.  A note is found inside her coffin.

Nancy, a nurse, takes a position at Highland Fields Hospital.  She tends to a young priest, Reverend Philip Brockhurst, as he battles a heart ailment. Philip asks for Nancy’s prayers, and she offers them, reluctantly at first and then fervently. Finding time between her other duties, Nancy sits alongside Philip’s bed and sings to him.

Nancy recalls visiting Philip’s room at the end of her overnight shift and being surprised to find him awake.  Philip explains that he is soon to die, and Nancy takes his hand and offers encouragement. The priest spasms and draws his last breath.  Nancy feels Philip’s grip ease in death and, checking his pulse, finds none.

As Nancy begins to leave the hospital room, she notices Philip sitting upright.  The dead man gestures for his nurse to remain at his side.  Philip stands, removes his hospital gown, and, with Nancy’s help, dresses himself.  Nancy urges the priest to return to bed but is ignored.
