28. On the March
Pausing his narrative, Severian describes the hierarchy of religious devotion and a sacred rite he experienced before his departure from Urth.
Vodalus and his retinue depart the ziggurat and enter the jungle with Severian in tow. Slowed by his injuries, Severian receives continued medical treatment for the wounds to his leg and face. While on the march, Severian converses with his captors and learns of the various reasons for their alignment with Vodalus. He finds many to be disenchanted with the rebellion.
