22. Battle

Passing through a devastated forest, Severian and his column approach the warfront.  He notices the diverse fighting force assembled in support of the Commonwealth.  In the distance, the Ascians amass.

The Autarch’s army presses forward despite sustaining fire from distant energy weapons.  Severian notices a contingent of mystics chanting defensive spells that prove ineffective.
