The Sailor Who Sailed After the Sun

The Sailor Who Sailed After the Sun

A young man, Reuben, signs on to a whaling ship and is outfitted for life at sea.  His ship rounds Cape Horn and makes for the Pacific Ocean.  Fierce winds stymie the journey and cast a sailor overboard.

On reaching calm seas, the sailors take and butcher a pair of whales.

A harpoon-struck sperm whale rises from the depths to ram Reuben’s ship. Seawater pours into the hold, and the crew rushes to seal the breach. The captain sets course for safety, landing on a far-flung tropical island. There, the ship is beached and repaired.
