The Grave Secret
A necromancer, James Gordon Atwood III, searches Greenwood Memorial Cemetery for a fresh grave. Atwood reflects on his studies of profane texts and eagerly anticipates the fruits of his dark pursuits.
Finding a patch of fresh-tilled earth, Atwood arranges thirteen candles along the vertices of a hexagram and intones an incantation in a long-forgotten language. In the silence that follows his chanting, Atwood worries that his endeavor to join body and spirit has failed.
Smoke rises from the grave, and a white hand bursts from the ground. A corpse clambers from its resting place to stand before Atwood. The necromancer moves aside as the horror stalks through the cemetery, intent on fulfilling its unspoken purpose.
