Pocketsful of Diamonds

Pocketsful of Diamonds

Seated with her five wards around a dining table, Aunt Mildred announces the imminent arrival of two new foster children: siblings Taffy Apple and Candi Cotin.  Her charges question where in the boarding house the newcomers will sleep and whether they will share a room with brother and sister Danny and Debbie.

Danny dreams of his parents and encroaching danger.  Debbie shakes Danny awake and points out the multicolored lights streaming through their window.  The siblings climb outside and make for the strange display.

On the grounds where stood a decrepit factory, Danny and Debbie encounter a man in a red and white suit.  The man quotes them the price of admission to an illuminated fairground.  Danny indicates that he and Debbie are penniless.  Noting that their pockets are full of riches, the man presents the children with free entrance tickets and vouchers for concessions.

Debbie and Danny enter the fair and consider how to spend their time.  They notice a woman ushering guests into a tent filled with human curiosities.  The lady pulls from behind an awning the Lobster Girl and directs her to show her claws to the gathered crowd.

A fat woman in a black dress introduces herself to Danny and Debbie by various names.  She indicates her desire to meet a woman larger than herself and invites the children into the tent.
