5. The Picture-Cleaner and Others

Drotte and Roche are elevated from apprentices to journeymen on the Feast of Holy Katharine.  Severian is appointed captain of the apprentices and establishes his dominance by attacking Eata and fighting the younger boys.  Entrusted with new authority, Severian is also granted greater freedom and assigned less arduous tasks.  Often, Severian is sent to deliver messages from the guild to other departments in the Citadel.
