23. Jolenta

As he sits with Dorcas, Severian recalls Valeria and the Atrium of Time.  Severian and Dorcas return to the commotion of the Green Room, where entertainers prepare for the festival.

While Jolenta looks on, Severian, Baldanders, and Dorcas assemble their stage and Dr. Talos drafts final revisions to his script.

Jolenta approaches Severian and asks him to accompany her around the garden.  She describes her power of attraction and its command over a multitude of admirers.
