18. Mirrors

Despondent, Jonas explains the story’s ending to Severian before falling silent.  Severian struggles to sleep and wakes as Thecla embodied.  She recognizes the Antechamber and walks to a hidden door.

Returning to his senses, Severian is approached by the young girl imprisoned.  She asks after a woman in the dark and warns of a black animal rummaging through the prison.
