14. Terminus Est

Before leaving the Matachin Tower, Severian returns to Master Palaemon.  The Master presents Severian with an executioner’s sword, Terminus Est.  The sword is ornately decorated, blunt at the tip, and weighted to easily raise and descend in action.  Sword in scabbard, Severian takes to the road.
