12. The Traitor

The next morning, Severian is tasked with bringing the inmates food left over from the Feast of Holy Katharine.  After his rounds, Severian is approached by Master Gurloes, two soldiers, a priest, and a newly arrived female prisoner.  The Master instructs Severian to escort the woman to a cell.  Severian decides to place her in the room beside Thecla.  As they walk through the oubliette, Severian and the woman discuss the terms of her imprisonment.  Severian introduces the woman to Thecla, who embarrasses and upsets him.
