12. The Notules

The next morning, Severian wakes next to Jonas and notices that two horses have been prepared for their departure.  Severian reflects on the feast and the integration of Thecla’s memories into his own.

As they depart the encampment, Severian informs Jonas that they are to rendezvous with Jolenta and Dorcas at the House Absolute.  Jonas reaffirms that he will travel with Severian and confides that he did not eat Thecla’s corpse. Severian resolves not to deliver Vodalus’s message.

Jonas and Severian travel several days in the direction of the House Absolute, pausing only to perform executions.
