11. Thecla

Realizing that he is soon to consume human carrion, Severian retches.  Jonas and Severian consider escape but are soon led away by armed guards.  As they travel through the woods to the feast, the men discuss corpse-eating with anticipation.

As instructed, Severian and Jonas sit among a small group of people gathered around a lantern.  Vodalus joins them.  A servant approaches with a crystal goblet.  Thea explains to Severian that the cup contains the analeptic alzabo.  Vodalus drinks from the chalice and passes it along to Severian, Jonas, and the others.  Severian feels the effects of the drug while Vodalus leads the group in an oath of allegiance.
